Laser Introduction
If you are one of the many millions of people who suffer from unwanted hair and want a long-lasting solution, our therapists can offer you a safe, effective and virtually painless way to remove unwanted hair.
The usual methods of removing your unwanted hair are a real chore. Shaving, waxing or using tweezers takes up precious time and can be very uncomfortable. These methods can remove the hair for you, but need to be repeated on a regular basis. We have an alternative.
Pain-Free, Hair-Free is the next-generation of laser hair removal. It's an effective and permanent hair reduction solution that is simple and easy. It takes cutting-edge medical laser technology and combines it with the comfort and convenience of a trip to the spa. In fact, Pain-Free, Hair-Free uses new breakthrough technology that has been described as one of the most comfortable laser hair removal options available. If you’ve had laser hair removal elsewhere and thought it was too uncomfortable, come and experience the difference.
The SHR method of laser hair removal is unlike any other laser hair removal treatment. The laser is passed over the site 6 to 12 times like a paint brush. It fires tiny bursts of energy 10 times a second, slowly, gently heating the hair follicles.
Preparing for Laser Hair Removal
To ensure that as many hair follicles are targeted as possible it is also important not to undergo any hair removal for at least four weeks before the appointment or during the course of treatment. The same rule applies to any sun treatments, as a tan will raise the pigment level in the skin and have a severe effect on the treatments' success.
Your treatment programme.
The hair removal procedure itself is very straightforward. You’ll lie on a couch or bed and make yourself comfortable. As a safety measure, you’ll be asked to wear some eye protection, which the practitioner will also wear. Prior to treatment the area is shaved before a thin layer of protective gel (similar to that used in ultra sound) is applied to maximise absorption. Gel will be applied to the area, once all the setting have been made, The laser-trained nurse runs the laser head in a sweeping motion over the area 6 to 12 times like a paint brush. It fires tiny bursts of energy 10 times a second, slowly, gently heating the hair follicles. You will feel the area warm slightly to the the heat levels of a hot stone massage, the patented DualChill™ treatment tip keeps your skin cool and comfortable. Sometimes the skin swells or reddens slightly, depending on which part of your body is being treated. Treatment times vary depending on the person and the area being treated. It can be as brief as ten minutes, depending on what treatment you’re having.
Will I need more than one treatment session?
Commonly, six to eight treatment sessions are needed to provide a permanent reduction of hair growth. This is because at any given time some of the follicles in the treatment area won’t be in the growth phase. We spread our treatments out to make sure that hair that isn’t treated in one session is affected in the next. Facial hair tends to be more stubborn and may need ten to twelve treatment sessions or occasionally more in very resistant cases. The gap between sessions is usually four weeks for facial areas and six weeks for body areas. The number of hair removal sessions depends on various factors, including where the hair is, how thick it is and also your particular skin type and hair colour. For the best results we recommend that you complete the full series of treatment sessions. Our laser-trained therapists can answer all your questions and offer support. If at any time you want to discuss any part of the hair removal programme, please give us a call.
After the procedure.
For the first few days after your treatment you should apply aloe vera gel to soothe the affected area. Also, a sun-cream of at least SPF30 should be applied to exposed treated areas every day for at least two weeks, regardless of the weather. You shouldn’t expose the treated area to the sun or use sun beds for at least four weeks before and after treatment. A more detail aftercare sheet will be provided in the consultation.
Are there any risks?
There may be some redness and swelling after the treatment but this usually only lasts one or two days. Sometimes there can be an increase or loss of pigmentation (colouring) in the skin. In a very small number of cases the skin’s texture may change slightly. IPL very rarely causes scarring.
What to Expect
The result: A 50 to 80% (or better) reduction in unwanted hair. Hair is natural to your body and it grows in stages. At any given time, not all hairs are growing and lasers are most effective at targeting the growing hairs. In practice, no laser destroys all of the hair follicles. Some follicles are destroyed, while others are reduced to fine hairs or shocked into prolonged dormancy. Multiple treatments provide the best results.
